Penelope Pierce – Executive Director
Penelope is at the helm of GVLT as the Executive Director. Prior to working with GVLT she was the US Regional Director for the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y) where she was involved with major donor development and coordination of Y2Y’s many partners. She was previously an attorney with Foster, Pepper and Shefelman in Seattle, where she practiced land use and real estate law, the Director of Land Conservation for The Nature Conservancy’s Wyoming Chapter, and the Major Gifts and Planned Giving Manager for the Seattle Art Museum. She was also involved in private rainforest conservation for over 10 years on Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Western Environmental Law Center (WELC). Penelope holds a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law.

Peter Brown – Stewardship Manager
Peter Brown received a B.S and M.S. in resource conservation from the University of Montana. He most recently worked with the Blackfoot Challenge in Ovando, Montana; and over the last ten years he has held numerous field biology and resource related positions throughout Montana and the West. Peter was born and raised on a ranch outside of Helena, Montana, were his family has been actively engaged in natural resource stewardship for five generations. As Stewardship Manager, Peter will be monitoring all of GVLT’s conservation easement properties and working closely with easement donors and successive owners to ensure that the conservation values of GVLT conservation easements are protected in perpetuity. He is also available to answer stewardship questions and direct landowners to the appropriate natural resource professionals.

Dan Center – Office and Systems Manager
Dan grew up in the suburbs of New York City and moved to Bozeman eight years ago. He worked at Montana Outdoor Science School, Bohart Ranch XC Ski Center, and managed Refuge Sustainable Building Center for five years. Dan enjoys long hikes in the woods with his wife, daughter, and dogs. He also looks forward to skiing, trail running, and backpacking during the appropriate seasons. Dan holds a B.A. in History from Williams College. He once hiked home from college, 170 miles along the Appalachian Trail, instead of spending three hours in the car.

Kelly Pohl – Program Director
Kelly Pohl holds a B.S. in geography from Montana State University and a M.S. in geography from Portland State University. Before coming to GVLT she worked for Colorado State Parks and The Nature Conservancy’s Global Fire Initiative out of Boulder, Colorado. Kelly was born and raised in Bozeman and returned in 2005 to work at the Gallatin Valley Land Trust. As Program Director, she helps lead our Land Conservation and Community Trails programs. Kelly specializes in helping private landowners design conservation projects for their land.

Anne Tyler – Development and Outreach Manager
Anne Tyler is the Development and Outreach Manager. Her position includes planning and implementing events, membership tracking and soliciting, development, outreach, communications, and most importantly working with inspired volunteers. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she prides herself in her southern ties but living in Montana is a more suitable match for her. Anne received a BFA from Appalachian State University; while attending she became an active volunteer for a local conservancy which was her initial introduction to the complexities of conservation and community development. Before starting with GVLT in 2008, she served two Americorps terms, worked with Youth Conservation Corps in Yellowstone National Park, and worked for three years at Intrinsik Architecture. At sunrise or sunset you can find Anne on bike or foot on the local trails; she seizes every opportunity to be outdoors all the while enjoying the diversity of flora and fauna that create this marvelous community.

Gary Vodehnal – Trails Program Coordinator
Gary was born in Ord, Nebraska and has lived in Bozeman for the past twenty-five years. Gary earned a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management and resource conservation from the University of Nebraska and an M.S. in land reclamation from Montana State University. Prior to working for GVLT he was employed by the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the National Park Service in Idaho and Montana. As Trails Program Coordinator he helps plan, construct, and maintain new trails in the Bozeman area.
