Planning

GVLT works with city and county government agencies and boards, neighborhoods and developers to plan future trail corridors and to review subdivision proposals to ensure that our trail system grows as our community grows. Over the last several years, GVLT staff have worked to ensure quality trail corridors in dozens of subdivision plans. We also participate in many important community planning efforts, including:

Parks Recreation Open Space and Trails Plan (currently being updated)

Bozeman Area Transportation Plan (currently being updated)

Bozeman 20/20 Community Plan (currently being updated)

Bozeman Deaconess Sub-Area Plan

Bozeman Creek Neighborhood Plan

MSU Campus Plan

Special Projects

Drinking Horse Mountain & Fish Technology Center
Drinking Horse Mountain & Fish Technology Center
GVLT makes a special effort when unique opportunities arise to combine land conservation with the creation of major new public trails, such as the planned Fish Technology Center Drinking Horse Mountain trail. These projects have great public benefit, but are typically complex, time consuming, and expensive. We are currently working on several exciting projects including:

Drinking Horse Mountain Trail

“Snowfill” Dog and Cross-Country Skiing Recreation Area

Saving the Summit of Burke Park

Bozeman Creek Greenway

New & Better Trails

GVLT takes the lead in securing funding and coordinating permitting, design, contracting and construction of many new trails, as well as major trail improvements such as bridges, information kiosks, benches and the Langohr Park climbing boulder. These projects are developed in close partnership with the Bozeman Parks Division.

Trail Easements

GVLT negotiates trail easements with willing private landowners to create key connections in our trail system. A trail easement is a legally binding agreement for a permanent right-of-way across private lands. Once the trail is constructed, GVLT transfers the easement to the City or County and the new trail becomes part of our public non-motorized trail system.

Trail Maintenance

GVLT staff and volunteers partner with the Bozeman Parks Division and the Montana Conservation Corps on a wide range of maintenance projects including erosion control, brush clearing and updating signage.
