Public Input Requested: Bikefill Community Bike Park Moves to Design Phase with Contractor Selection

Following a successful major fundraising campaign that attracted more than 800 donors, GVLT, the City of Bozeman, and Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association (SWMMBA) are moving forward with plans to build Bikefill, a world-class community bike park for all ages and abilities.

The 66-acre bike park will be located adjacent to Snowfill Recreation Area on land provided by the City of Bozeman. Once Bikefill is complete, the Snowfill/Bikefill park complex will provide more than 100 acres of purpose-built trails and parkland that add significant recreational features to our community.

Design and Construction Team Selected

This fall, a joint project team from GVLT, the City, and SWMMBA selected a highly skilled, locally based design and construction team to bring the Bikefill vision to life. The team is a collaboration of two leading Montana trail design and construction firms:

  • Integrated Trail Lab: A locally owned and Bozeman-based firm known for projects including the West Lake Dirt Jumps, pump tracks at Gallatin Regional Park and Copper City, paved track at the Big Sky Community Park, and the 8th Street Trail network in Boise, Idaho.

  • Terraflow: A Whitefish-based firm known for the recently completed Gnomadic Trail at Crosscut/Bridger, NeverSweat at Copper City, Mountain to Meadow in Big Sky, and the acclaimed Legacy Bike Park in Lakeside, Montana.

Integrated Trails Lab and Terraflow are supported by:

Join the Vision: Community Input Requested

The community is invited to weigh in and help shape the final design.

“Bikefill has been a long-held dream, and now, with your input, we can realize the community’s vision for a world-class bike park right here in Bozeman,” says GVLT Executive Director Chet Work.

Mitch Overton, Director of the Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department, stated, “By working closely with our partners and listening to our community, we’re building a premier biking facility that will expand recreation opportunities and support Bozeman’s growing biking culture for years to come.”

Here’s how the community can provide feedback:

  • Online Visioning Survey: A visioning survey is now available on the City’s Engage Bozeman website. Community members are invited to provide feedback on desired features, amenities, facilities, and anticipated usage. All survey participants will be entered in a raffle for day passes to Big Sky Resort Bike Park and Legacy Bike Park.

  • Community Workshops: Project partners will host a series of public engagement workshops. The first will take place on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m., following the City of Bozeman’s Urban Parks and Forestry Board meeting in the Commission Room at City Hall, 121 N Rouse Ave.

Project Timeline and Partnership Details

Project partners anticipate breaking ground this summer, with some rideable features expected to be available in the fall.

Bikefill is a public-private partnership between GVLT, the City of Bozeman, and SWMMBA.

  • GVLT led the successful fundraising campaign and is managing the design, engineering, and construction of the bike park features.

  • The City of Bozeman is using 66 acres of City property, funding McIlhattan Road improvements and the construction and maintenance of essential civil infrastructure within the Bike Park, including access, a new parking lot, and public restrooms. After public engagement, including Urban Parks and Forestry Board recommendation, the Park Master Plan will be adopted by the City Commission.

  • SWMMBA will advise the park design process and provide ongoing maintenance of technical bike park features.
