A Beautiful New Welcome at Kirk Hill
Ben Schachner and Daphne Gilliam
Please join us in extending huge thanks to two incredible volunteers whose creativity, craftsmanship, and deep love for Kirk Hill have transformed the trailhead experience.
When the old Kirk Hill kiosk finally reached the end of its life, Daphne Gilliam and Ben Schachner stepped up with professional skills and generous hearts to create something truly special for the community.
The Artistry: Daphne, a Bozeman-based artist and former GVLT board member, brought her expertise in hand-drawn cartography to the project by designing a beautiful watercolor map of the Kirk Hill trail system. With several miles of looping trails that can be tricky to navigate, her thoughtful, detailed design now provides clear and welcoming wayfinding for all visitors.
The Craftsmanship: Complementing her work, Ben Schachner, owner of Stillwater Builders, donated his time and talent to build a one-of-a-kind, timber-frame-style kiosk. As an avid trail user himself, Ben saw an opportunity to give back through his craft, creating a lasting structure that will serve the community for years to come.
This project reflects the spirit that has defined Kirk Hill since Marguerite Kirk’s original gift: a place shaped and cared for by people who believe in access to the outdoors. Daphne and Ben’s generosity ensures that this beloved trailhead continues to inspire and guide all who pass through.
From all of us, and everyone who loves Kirk Hill, thank you! And next time you're at the Kirk Hill trailhead, take a moment to admire their incredible work.
